Getting inspiration for your blog can sometimes be a
daunting prospect, especially if your mind is at a complete blank. With keeping
a fashion blog going out and shopping is truly a very important aspect to keep
up with each season’s trends and displaying posts wearing new clothes. BUT, for
students this can be a bit of a no go if you struggle with money as much as me!
I've found as I have to spend a lot of time in bed and not being able to visit
shops, I've had to focus elsewhere on finding inspiration for my blogs to keep
you readers interested, so I thought I’d give a few tips if you’re ever a bit
strung up for time to shop or even short of a few pounds!
1.
Spend the time to read other peoples blogs based
on the same subjects as yours.
This is vital for two reasons.
Commenting on other peoples blogs and leaving your blog name underneath makes
your blog known. It is necessary in blogging to network and continually put
your name across to attract popularity. Secondly, reading other peoples can
give great inspiration for tips on how to create blog posts that are necessary
and popular at the moment.
Within fashion there are a few topics
you can focus on if you’re short of money:
-
DIY Posts - e.g. Cutting a dress into a Co-Ord!
-
Magazines
-
Books
-
Drawing your own fashion inspiration
-
Imagery of your own work. E.g. Sketchbooks
2.
Taking notice of your own blogs comments.
. Every
time you get a question – answering that question is a potential blog post.
Want a cheeky suggestion?
Go to other bloggers in your niche and see the
questions they are being asked and the comments they are getting with their
blog posts, that will give you ideas.
Also updating previous posts of your
own such as the fashion aspect is a great way to keep up with trends and
keeping viewers interested.
3. Reading
Forums
Forums have an almost everlasting supply of blog post ideas. What is more, if you pick the right topic and there is lots of
comments you almost have the whole post written for you.
Also, forums
often focus on problems or issues – that you can blog about and answer.
Every blogger should have the top forums in their niche
bookmarked and visited on a regular basis.
4.
Go to Events/Galleries
Attend events and galleries related to your
industry/niche. Every one of them can give you things to blog about – from
simply reviewing the event or listing for example:
"10 Autumn/Winter Trends to
look out for"
-
Victoria and Albert Museum (London)
-
The Tate Gallery (London)
-
The National Art Gallery (London)
-
Knitting & Stitching Show (London)
-
Fashion Space Gallery (London)
-
Fashion & Textile Museum (London)
-
New Designers 2014 (London – 25/06 – 05/07 –
Tickets still available)
5. Twitter/Instagram - Finding Trending Topics
What are your followers tweeting
about? What are the individuals you are following tweeting about
.Anything hot on trending Topics that
you can jump on with an angle for your niche?
Digg.com and Google Trends are other great places to find inspiration. I am not saying copy other articles or
posts, but if it is something related to your niche then you can blog about it with authority.
A few hashtags all bloggers should use and are great
places to find new bloggers and inspiration:
#fblogger
#fbloggers
#fbloggersuk
#bloglovin
#blogspot
#bloggerstyle
#blog
#bloggers
#ootd
Pinterest is also a great place to find amazing photography and interesting inspiration for your work.

6. TV, Books, Magazines & Movies
All of the above have no end of inspiration and ideas. As you read, think, would this be of interest to my readers? Or how can I put a slant on this that make this more interesting to my readers?
Magazines in particular
are always publishing lists – I am not saying you copy those lists, but chances
are you can find an ‘angle’ that allows you to produce something original and unique.
Back to clothing on the next post, but hope this helps if you're ever struggling!
