About Me

AWARD WINNING, SECOND YEAR UNDERGRADUATE STUDYING TEXTILES: INNOVATION & DESIGN AT LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY. CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE STUDENT SPECIALISING IN PRINT FOR FASHION.

Emily Instone is a British print designer working in textiles and fashion, located between Loughborough and Newborough in Burton-Upon-Trent. Emily is notorious for developing detailed drawings into intricate prints working primarily with colour and texture. A lifetime passion for fashion and design has established her desire in gaining the opportunity to work within the fashion and textile sector.

Through her personal love of photography she develops a thorough spectrum of research taking inspiration from her picturesque countryside surroundings and worldwide travels. Emily’s variety of primary photographs guide her on a journey in crafting a new take on what could be seen as normal images and evolving and designing innovative prints. In order to create inventive prints an in-depth selection of drawing in her typically meticulous style is her initial starting point. Emily is then able to focus on producing a portfolio of observational drawings and paintings through a range of media including graphite pencil, gouache paint, acrylic paint, colour crayons and pens. Individual prints are developed through her skilled knowledge on Adobe Photoshop. She is able to edit imagery and create diverse repeat prints, one off statement prints and basic prints. She also develops kodatrace designs for screen printing where she is able to establish a variety of outcomes and colours through different dyeing techniques including acid, VAT, direct and procion. Emily is a motivated student who thrives under pressure and has recently followed a brief set by H&M in creating a capsule print collection.

Emily created and designed her own personal fashion, textile and photography blog in April 2014. Through this media she hoped to vocalise and present her fashion photography, views, notes and inspirational figures. Gaining recognition for her work she was asked to write a piece on Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition for revolutionary fashion website Farfetch and her personal photography was featured on Style Honey Life website. In October 2015 Emily was appointed to run Loughborough University’s Aura Textile Facebook page and create and run the Aura Textile blog.

In a short amount of time Emily has established her design identity. She was recognised after achieving a first in her print module after completing year one and was awarded the Loughborough University Development Trust Prize – Exceptional First Year Student.
