For me and countless other individuals (especially
bloggers!) black and white are obligatory in our closets, so bringing in a
palette of colour can be somewhat daunting for the best of us! But, there is nothing
more appealing than hues of colour clothing on a sunny spring afternoon. My
Missguided haul had slowly introduced me to beautiful pastel colours in
different shades & tones, & since I have been hitting the high street
stores hoarding more wonderful clothes in a variety of textures, particularly charming
knits. This post is to give a perception on how to dress in pastels as balancing
colour is vital; we don’t want to go out looking like a sickly coated cupcake!
Accessorize
If like me to begin with the idea of colour is slightly intimidating,
pastel accessories are a small but sweet way to begin. Embellished necklaces
are a favourite of mine and there are pastel beauties in all high street
stores, my preferred being New Look & Primark. A delightful necklace
combined with a clutch bag in a contrasting hue can make an ‘LBD’ pop &
stand out against our usual all black combinations; or even paired with classic
‘Mom’ jeans. A small foundation can leave an outstanding impression!
Colour Block
If you’re more direct and outgoing with your style blending
pastel on pastel can be an elegant move. Darker tones on the bottom look great
contrasted with lighter on the top. Colours within the same family can also
look wonderful. Not only that, your ensemble can be taken up a few notches with
a brighter/neon piece juxtaposed to a pastel. Colour blocking will keep you
looking sweet, yet sophisticated.
Overdoing It
A key rule to remember when wearing pastels is, keep your
hair & makeup simple. Pastels shades are soft & feminine so keeping
subtle hair & makeup won’t overpower your outfit. Even on a night out bold
black eyeliner is a personal choice of mine but using a brown can tone them
down and pretty pastel lips will complete the look. One thing I have yet to try
is understated wavy hair as it creates a sexy & subdued aspect.
Edgy Is Better
For me personally I’m not an enthusiast of lace. Although it
can look beautiful on some, it’s slightly too girly for the likes of me; I’m
much more attracted to clean-cut clothing. The colours are extremely ladylike as it is, so obsessing over details can lead to a fashion disaster.
Neutral Base
If you’re more of a monochrome gal like myself, a desired
look of mine is to start with a neutral base. A perfect crisp white shirt is
the best way to start. White shirts are particularly easy to get hold of on the
high street and at a price you can’t turn down! Some may say a white shirt is ‘boring’,
but paired with a pastel skirt or trousers & a stunning necklace, you won’t
create anything less than a captivating combination.
I will be going through each piece of my closet to create outfit inspirations for you so that will be coming up soon. If you'd been struggling with pastels I hope this gives you an idea on how to style them. As I had previously promised an insight to my what I'm having to wear at the moment will be coming up in the next two days, so make sure you come back!
